Recent data from the World Health Organization report that the constipation affects more than 50% of women and over 35% of men; the disorder is present in 20% of population of countries with a high technological development between 20 and 40 years of age, it doubles between 40 and 60 years and it tripled in older age.

A prolonged constipation can give you:

  • Stressful Evacuation (without laxatives)
  • Sense of incomplete evacuation (no laxatives)
  • Hard stools (no laxatives)
  • Less than two bowel movements per week
  • Headache
  • Anorexia
  • Flatulence (intestinal swelling):
  • it is the expulsion through the rectum of a mixture of gases that are byproducts of the digestion process
  • Dyspnea (difficulty breathing)
  • Dizziness and malaise
  • Abdominal pain
  • Rectal heaviness

  • An untreated chronic constipation can lead to worsening problems very serious, such as hemorrhoids and fecal impaction (large accumulations of feces that are difficult to remove).
Acute constipation requires urgent assessment because a serious medical illness may be the underlying cause (for example, tumors of the colon).

Symptoms such as rectal bleeding, abdominal pain and cramps, nausea and vomiting and loss of weight, require immediate solution.

Constipation in most cases, is complicated by psychological issues (depression, anxiety) or environmental factors (altereted biological rhythms , reduced or lack of exercise, poor nutrition and often messy liquids and dietary fiber), which exacerbates the subjective perception of the problem.
